Frequently asked questions
Astra won't talk, or says it "can't think."
Astra's replies come from Apple Intelligence running on your iPhone, so it needs an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, running iOS 26 or later, with Apple Intelligence turned on: Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri. Astra's voice, orb, weather, news, and bark reactions still work without it. Settings inside Astra shows the current Apple Intelligence status.
The voice list is empty, or the voice sounds robotic.
Astra offers only Apple's higher-quality English voices, and they have to be downloaded first. Go to iOS Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → English, download a voice marked Enhanced or Premium, then pick it in Astra's Settings. Rate and pitch sliders are there too.
Astra keeps listening, or cuts me off mid-sentence.
That's Stay Awake, which is on by default: Astra treats a pause of about two seconds as the end of your turn and replies. Turn Stay Awake off in Settings (or on the main screen) to go back to tap-the-orb-to-talk. Tapping the orb also ends a turn early. Astra only listens while it's open on screen — never in the background.
Is my conversation saved or sent anywhere?
No. Replies are generated on your iPhone, conversation history exists only in memory and disappears when the app closes, no audio is ever recorded, and there's no account or server. Full details in the Privacy Policy.
How do I turn Sassy Mode on or off — and what if I forgot the PIN?
Sassy Mode (adults only) is in Settings and asks you to set a PIN the first time. Five wrong tries locks it for 30 seconds. If you've forgotten it, use Reset Sassy Mode PIN in Settings. Kids Mode keeps Sassy Mode off entirely.
Are there in-app purchases or a subscription?
No. Astra is a one-time purchase, and everything is included — every voice and every orb color. Pick any of them in Settings; nothing is locked.
Why does Astra open Safari or the Books app instead of answering?
By design. Astra has no live internet access, so rather than guess, it hands off: web searches open in Safari with what you typed, audiobooks open in Apple Books, and Alexa requests open the Alexa app. Nothing about your conversation is passed along.
Can I get weather without sharing my location?
Yes. Enter a ZIP code in Astra's Settings and it will use that instead — Astra never asks for location. If you do allow location, it's rounded to about a kilometer before the weather request is made, and only when you ask.
How do I delete my data?
Your settings and any PIN live only on your iPhone. Edit or clear them in Settings, or delete the app to remove everything.
